Tradescantia zebrina ‘Flame Dance’

Tradescantia zebrina is a trailing tropical plant with speckled stems and silver bands on the leaves. The ‘Flame Dance’ cultivar has unusual foliage with the silver bands broken up into streaks and sometimes entirely absent. In intense light the leaves develop dramatic red and purple colours.

‘Flame Dance’ is sometimes sold as ‘Red Gem’, which is an ambiguous name used to sell multiple different cultivars. It is also sometimes mislabelled as ‘Mme Lequesne’, although that’s actualy the original name for a completely different cultivar. Tradescantias are commonly known as inchplants, spiderworts, wandering dudes, and dayflowers.
